'for me, it was a no-brainer,' says williams, who was hired because he's 'a big believer in the product.' by the late 1990s, williams had worked for a number of other companies, including one that worked to help companies with a high number of employees navigate complex issues related to compensation and benefits. so when he and a group of colleagues decided to try and break into the business of designing posters and other creative materials for businesses, he says they quickly realized there are many more people out there who have the skills to do just that -- and that doing graphic design work was a huge market. the reason the poster design world is the way it is is that it's a niche industry, says williams. some 60 percent of all business posters are created for one-time use and then quickly repurposed, he says. for many graphic design companies, though, it's more complicated. many business owners or designers need to design several posters over several years, and there's often no market for them. companies that have a more permanent presence in their local market often hire freelance graphic designers. in the print publishing industry, however, those companies typically prefer to go with someone who is more established.
