Hire typing for money service , as in paddington station. the idea was first conceived in the mid-seventies by a pair of schoolteachers who had grown concerned at the growing inequality between the city's richer parts and poorer. the pair started building one in his back yard in the late sixties. then, in the summer of 1968, the bbc world service radio programme the world of tomorrow brought the project to british audiences as an experiment. over 12 episodes, the programme interviewed the two men involved, explained to the public why we needed to change the keyboard layout for money service, and broadcast the keyboard layout across the country. the network of keypads was so popular that they developed the project again to a much larger scale and in the 1980s launched a new edition featuring more than 100 stations, and many other countries. one of the key founders of the programme was michael faraday, who first suggested that we switch our computer keyboards for something else. he was inspired when he was reading a newspaper headline about one of his young granddaughters getting herself a new school uniform. it was all very nice until he saw the word 'school uniform'. what michael saw was the old school uniforms of the late nineteenth-century had been made of white silk, but were now being replaced with a modern system that was mostly made of paper. even then, the old silk school uniforms were of a quality that far outstripped the new paper ones.
